Get to Know
Dr. Melanie Pugh
With over 25+ years of experience in the dental field so far, Dr. Melanie Pugh has truly seen and done it all. From inner-city treatments to Appalachian clinics to small-town dentistry to complex oral surgery, her outstanding knowledge and expertise is greatly valued by everyone who walks into the office. Even our other dentists are proud to learn from her every day and pass that vital education onto each patient in need! At its heart, her approach to oral healthcare is all about bringing honesty, trustworthiness, and hometown values to the treatment chair. What her patients remark most is her overall gentle approach and personality. She will take care of your family as she would want her own loved ones to be taken care of, which means you will always receive the personalized attention and unrushed time you deserve.
Why did you decide to become a dentist?
Dr. Pugh always liked working with her hands, and dentistry gave her an opportunity to do just that while also improving people’s lives, so it seemed like the perfect fit! She also likes how she’s able to provide instant transformations for her patients that can help someone feel better about themselves for many years to come. Nothing makes her happier than watching someone’s confidence and self-esteem grow before her eyes as she gives them the smile they deserve.
Where did you study dentistry?
Dr. Pugh received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Kentucky in 1994. After building a successful dental practice in her hometown, she decided to relocate to southwest Florida in 2003. Over the years, she has dedicated herself to continuing education in order to improve her skills and expand her knowledge, specifically focusing on sleep apnea treatment. She’s completed the Mastery I Program with the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. She has also attended the world-renowned Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education.
What do you like to do outside of the dental office?
Dr. Pugh has been married to Jody for 25 years, and they stay very busy at home thanks to their twins, Ethan and Avery. Most weekends, you’ll find her on the sidelines cheering on her kids during their numerous sports activities, and in her quieter moments, she enjoys playing with her dog or just hanging out with the family by the pool. Dr. Pugh is also a dedicated University of Kentucky basketball fan, and almost never misses watching a game!
