Dr. Mary Midence
Raised in the small town of Sebring, Florida (“The City on the Circle”), Dr. Midence believes in providing the best possible care for each patient through compassion and trust. Her diligence keeps her up to date on state-of-the-art technology and techniques, all to provide optimal dental care to the southwest Florida community. She’s thrilled to get to know her friends and neighbors while also doing everything she can to improve their health and appearance. Why did you decide to become a dentist?
Dr. Midence’s father was in the medical field, and this caused her to become interested in the sciences at a very early age. She started her education as a premed student, but after shadowing her family dentist (and with their encouragement), she decided to pursue dental medicine. She loves how the profession allows her to form deep relationships with her patients and truly get to know them while making positive, lasting changes to their lives.
Where did you study dentistry?
Dr. Midence graduated from Sebring High School as salutatorian of her class before attending Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. There, she earned a double major in biology and biomedical engineering as well as her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Her time as a student involved perennial inclusion on the Dean's List and a Merit Scholarship her final year in special recognition of academic excellence from day one in dental school. Today, she continues to grow and refine her skills by maintaining memberships in multiple professional organizations, including the:
- American Dental Association
- Florida Dental Association
- Academy of General Dentistry
What do you like to do outside of the dental office?
Both of Dr. Midence’s parents were born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and they moved to the U.S. after her dad finished medical school so he could complete his internship and residency. Dr. Midence was born in St. Louis, but her family eventually settled in Sebring, where her parents and most of her closest friends still reside. She also has a younger brother named Andrew. When she isn’t making trips to see her family, she enjoys playing tennis (she’s part of the UTSA league in Naples), and she also enjoys reading science fiction and fantasy books. Her favorite author at the moment is Brandon Sanderson—she thinks his Stormlight Archive Series and Mistborn Trilogy are amazing!
