Why did you decide to become a dentist?
When she was a child, Dr. Westervelt had a few dental accidents—she fell down the stairs and ran into a friend while playing tag! Her two front teeth were yellow and grey due to the trauma, so when her permanent teeth erupted, she was ecstatic they were white. Taking care of her teeth was a big priority from a young age, and she knew she wanted to share that passion with others by becoming a dentist.
Where did you study dentistry?
After high school, Dr. Westervelt continued on to the University of Florida for her Bachelor of Science in Biology, graduating cum laude in 2012. She then earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Michigan, with the special recognition of the Comprehensive Care Award, which she received for her commitment to excellence in dentistry and patient care.
Even though she is out of school, her insatiable thirst for education has never stopped! Dr. Westervelt is an active member of the Collier County Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry, through which she continues to stay up to date on the latest technology, materials, and techniques. She is currently working on obtaining her fellowship with the AGD. She is also taking part in the Pankey Essentials program at the Pankey Institute, one of the most prestigious postgraduate educational institutions in all of dentistry.
What do you like to do outside of the dental office?
If she isn’t spending time with her three siblings, you’ll most likely find Dr. Westervelt attending Orange Theory Fitness classes, working out, reading nonfiction, or hiking (her goal is to visit all of the U.S. National Parks). She also enjoys getting out on the water to go lobstering or fishing. She also takes care of her beautiful cats as a hobby!
